Meet The Highland Humanist

Introducing Andy

My Name is Andrew Gill, I go by either Andrew or Andy.  I live on the family farm here on the Black Isle.

After a 15-year career in Hospitality, I landed my first General Manager Job In a local 6 Bedroom Hotel.  I had got to where I had studied and worked to be. Shortly after this the world was gripped by the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent Lockdowns.

Like many others this caused me to re-evaluate what I wanted to do with my life.  Stepping back, I realised, I never wanted to be stuck doing stock orders or being too busy to speak to customers.  People were what I loved about my hospitality career, certainly not stock counts, or cashing up.

A number of my friends had joked over the years that if I was an officiant, they would have loved for me to conduct their weddings.  I have engaged in public speaking engagements from the age of 12, representing my school at Highland Youth Voice, Ross and Cromarty Youth Forum, Scottish Youth Bank and numerous Charitable fundraising events. This got me thinking, and I looked for an organisation whose values aligned with my own. I was delighted to find the Caledonian Humanist Association, and after rigorous training with them I was overjoyed to be licensed and authorised to conduct legal unions in Scotland.

My passion is people and their personalities, each one of us is an individual. My job is to capture that personality or personalities and convey this through the creation of personalised ceremonies, whatever those ceremonies may be. Each part of your day is built around you, each ceremony is unique and tailored to meet each person’s wants and needs.

Your Day – Your Way

What is a Humanist Celebrant?

A humanist celebrant is a person who is trained and authorized to conduct humanist ceremonies, such as weddings, funerals, and naming ceremonies. They are trained to work with couples and families to create a personal and meaningful ceremony that reflects their beliefs and values. Humanist celebrants do not perform religious rituals or use religious texts, instead they create a ceremony that is centered on human values, such as love, connection, and personal meaning. They often use poetry, literature, music, and other forms of expression to create a ceremony that is unique and memorable for the couple or family. Humanist celebrants are often associated with humanist organisations
